Career & Technical Programs
Freshman Career Exploratory Program
The career exploratory program was designed to help 9th grade students make an informed decision as to which career technical program coincides with their aptitudes and interests. The program consists of three phases that run two consecutive periods each day for the entire school year.
Phase I – Orientation Phase
During this phase the students are introduced to every career technical program offered at Keefe Tech. They spend 15 days in three different rooms evaluating the programs offered in each room.
Phase II – Exploratory Phase
At the conclusion of the orientation phase, each student chooses four career technical programs to explore for further evaluation. They will attend each program for half a term studying a required curriculum that introduces them to and evaluates them for entry level job skills.
Phase III – Pre-Vocational Phase
Upon completion of the four exploratory cycles each student will choose the career technical program that they were most successful in. They will alternate the last eight weeks of school between this career technical program and a related program in career exploratory to complete the requirements of the fourth term. While they are in their career technical program they will be evaluated to determine their potential for successful employment in their chosen field. They will also have the opportunity to change programs if they so desire. If a program is oversubscribed, the student’s academic, attendance and discipline records will be considered for placement into the program as well as their performance in the exploratory and the pre-vocational program.
Beginning in Grade 10, Keefe students will specialize in one career technical area. The thirteen career technical programs with links to more information may be found below:
