Grade Point Average
A weighted grade point average (GPA) is calculated on a designated scale of a student based on both grades and the level of the course pursued. The level of the course - IA, I, II, III, with corresponding values (.75, .5, .25, or 0), is added to the converted (numerical for letter) course grade based on a scale ranging from 4.3 (A+) to 0 (F). The sum is multiplied by the course credit (5, 1 or 3), then the sum total of all courses taken is divided by the number of credits. The quotient or number resulting from the division is the GPA.
Course Levels
| IA | .75 | Honors |
| I | .5 | College Preparatory Course |
| II | .25 | All other academic, bilingual, ESL and related courses |
| III | 0 | Vocational-Technical programs and Special Education courses |
GPA is calculated for all students. Courses include those listed in the Program of Studies in the Departments of English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Foreign Language, Bilingual and Special Needs. Non‑Keefe Tech School courses are not included on the transcript and are NOT calculated in the GPA.
Grading System
| A+ (97-99) | A (93-96) | A- (90-92) |
| B+ (87-89) | B (83-86) | B- (80-82) |
| C+ (77-79) | C (73-76) | C- (70-72) |
| D+ (67-69) | D (63-66) | D- (60-62) |

Guidance Services
Every student is assigned a guidance counselor who may work with the student, parents, teachers, and other professionals. Primarily, the counselor assists the student in addressing concerns and decisions about course selections, school progress, personal and social relationships, and educational and vocational planning. Some small group counseling and support groups are available. The guidance department has a collection of career material and information on schools and colleges, scholarships and supplementary material.
In addition the Keefe Technical School Guidance Department provides curriculum to students addressing academic, career-technical, and social-emotional goals and is in line with the Massachusetts Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs. Various programs are implemented throughout the year based on student need and department goals.
