National Honor Society
The Keefe Tech Chapter of the National Honor Society was started in 1986. The NHS is a nationwide association sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School principals. It is dedicated to promoting appropriate recognition of students who demonstrate outstanding Character, Scholarship, Leadership, and Service. Membership in the NHS is an honor bestowed on a student by vote of the NHS Faculty Council. The Keefe Tech NHS does no fundraising. It is completely funded by the school.
Responsibilities of the National Honor Society Advisor include:
- Monitoring the grades and discipline records of all members at all times
- Conducting at least one service project each year (The Honor Roll Ice Cream Party at the end of each term fulfills this requirement.)
- Carrying out the process of selecting new members each spring
- Overseeing and meeting with the NHS Faculty Council to vote on new members and to deal with discipline issues that may arise during the year
- Planning and producing the Induction Ceremony each spring. This includes:
- Planning the ceremony and reserving the auditorium and cafeteria
- Purchasing all supplies for the ceremony
- Having the certificates printed and signed
- Arranging for refreshments (Culinary Dept.)
- Arranging for flowers (Horticulture Dept.)
- Having the invitations printed (Graphic Arts Dept.)
- Selecting and rehearsing the student speakers
- Setting up the stage
- Rehearsing all students involved in the ceremony
- Speaking at the ceremony
- Writing thank-you notes after the ceremony
