| Career Technical Program Freshman Career Exploratory Program
The career exploratory program was designed to help 9th grade students make an informed decision as to which vocational program coincides with their aptitudes and interests. The program consists of three phases that run two consecutive periods each day for the entire school year.
Phase I – Orientation Cycle
During this cycle the students are introduced to every vocational program offered at Keefe Tech. They spend 15 days in three different rooms evaluating the programs offered in each room.
Phase II – Exploratory Cycles
At the conclusion of the orientation cycle, each student chooses four vocational programs to explore for further evaluation. They will attend each program for half a term studying a required curriculum. During these 4 exploratory cycles they will be administered the System for Assessment and Group Evaluation which we will use as an aid in selecting their final vocational program.
Phase III – Pre-Vocational Cycle
Upon completion of the four exploratory cycles each student will choose the vocational program that they were most successful in. They will alternate the last eight weeks of school between this vocational program and a related program in career exploratory to complete the requirements of the fourth term. While they are in their vocational program they will be evaluated to determine their potential for successful employment in their chosen field. They will also have the opportunity to change programs if they so desire. If a program is over subscribed, the student’s academic, attendance and discipline records will be considered for placement into the program.
Beginning in Grade 10, Keefe students will specialize in one vocational area. The program for Grades 10 through 12 consists of an alternating schedule of academic and vocational weeks. In the senior year, students who have met all requirements including two full years of vocational training may be eligible to utilize their skills in a real employment setting through the cooperative education program.
